How therapy works

Simple, private and never intimidating

Here is what the full journey looks like, from your first message to a thoughtful ending. There is nothing to prepare or prove.

The client journey

Seven gentle steps

Every step is guided. You will always know what comes next, and you can go at a pace that feels safe.

  1. 1

    Appointment request

You send a request; we respond to arrange a first conversation.

  2. 2

    Confirmation and intake form

Once confirmed, you complete a short, secure intake form.

  3. 3

    Initial consultation

The first appointment is a conversation, not a test. You can ask questions freely.

  4. 4

    Confidential assessment and goal setting

We agree your therapy goals collaboratively.

  5. 5

    Ongoing therapy sessions

Session frequency varies according to your individual needs.

  6. 6

    Progress review

We reflect together on what is helping and what to adjust.

  7. 7

    Planned completion or continued support

We plan a thoughtful ending, or continue for as long as is helpful.

What to expect along the way

The first appointment is a conversation, not a test

There is nothing to revise for and nothing to get right. The initial consultation is simply a chance to talk about what brings you here, at whatever pace feels comfortable. You are welcome to arrive nervous, unsure or hopeful — all of it is fine.

You can ask questions

This is your therapy. You are encouraged to ask about how sessions work, what an approach involves, or anything else on your mind. Understanding the process is part of feeling safe within it.

Your goals are agreed together

Therapy goals are set collaboratively. We make sense of your situation as a team and agree gentle, realistic aims — then revisit them as things change. Progress is individual, and outcomes are never guaranteed.

Your privacy is respected

What you share is treated with care and kept confidential within applicable professional and legal limits. Those limits are explained openly, so you always know how your information is handled.

Session frequency can vary

Some people benefit from weekly sessions; others prefer fortnightly or occasional check-ins. Frequency is guided by your individual needs and reviewed together over time.

Sometimes a different level of care is right

If it would serve you better, Petronilla may recommend another professional or an emergency service that can offer a more suitable level of care. This is always done thoughtfully and with your wellbeing in mind.
