Confidentiality Notice
What confidentiality means here, its limits, and how your information is protected.
This is a template
Your trust matters to us. This notice explains how we protect what you share, when confidentiality may need to be limited, and how your records are kept. Our aim is always to be open with you, so there are no surprises.
What confidentiality means
What you share in therapy is treated as private. We do not discuss your identity or the details of your sessions with anyone outside your care without your informed consent, except in the limited situations described below. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of safe, effective therapy.
The limits of confidentiality
There are a few situations where we may need to share information, usually after talking with you first wherever it is safe to do so:
- Risk of serious harm — if there is a serious and immediate risk to your life or safety, or to someone else.
- Safeguarding — where a child, or an adult who is vulnerable, may be at risk of harm.
- Legal requirements — where we are required by law or a court to disclose information.
In these situations we share only what is necessary, with the appropriate people or services, and we will be as open with you as we safely can be. If you are in immediate danger, please see our emergency page.
Record-keeping and security
We keep brief, professional records to support your care. These are stored securely with appropriate access controls, and only authorised people involved in your care can see them. We keep records for as long as necessary and in line with professional guidance.
Therapy records are kept separate
Where therapy is offered alongside a retreat or hotel stay, your therapy records are kept entirely separate from any accommodation, hotel or retreat booking records. Hotel or retreat staff do not receive your therapy notes. This separation protects your privacy.
Informed consent before sharing
Outside the limited situations above, we will not share your information without your informed consent. If it would help your care to involve another professional — for example a doctor — we will discuss it with you first and seek your agreement.
How to raise a concern
If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality, please talk to us — we welcome the conversation. You can reach us through our contact page, by email at admin@petronilla.co.ke, or by phone at +254711241476. You may also raise a concern with the Counsellors and Psychologists (C&P) Board, Ministry of Health, Kenya, with whom this practice is registered under number C&P/C/2707/2026.
